Living Foods Workshop: Vegetable Fermentation

Join us to learn the craft of making all of your favorite fermented vegetables at home.

Living Foods Workshop with Susan Chiappini. This class is devoted to fermented vegetables, a food group that is a tasty and nutritious addition to any meal. With a little know how, they can be easily made in your home kitchen with minimal equipment. Susan will cover all the basics to get you started on making sauerkraut, kimchi, ginger carrots and apple cider vinegar during this hands-on afternoon. Delicious samples will be available for tasting.

While we chop and prepare the vegetables, we'll discuss health benefits of fermented foods, how to avoid growth of unwanted bacteria, how to keep those ferments crunchy, and proper equipment.

Susan Chiappini, PhD, has studied human physiology and nutrition at the Medical College of Virginia, and Columbia University and she is certified as a Master Food Preserver through Cornell Co-operative Extension.

We will be serving refreshments throughout the afternoon, including a board of Churchtown Dairy cheeses, fresh bread, coffee, and our own herbal tea or the group to enjoy as they learn from Susan.

The class is limited to 12 attendees.
